They have these at almost every house… Soon I will be able to ask (in Thai) what they mean.

Update: I asked a fellow teacher who speaks English. She said that in Buddhism (Thai Buddhism) they believe that houses have spirits that guard and protect them, so they build houses for the spirits. These are called spirit houses!
